Common questions

Why can't I import a recipe from a photo?

The photo-import feature uses Apple's on-device language model and is only available on iPhones running iOS 26 or later with Apple Intelligence enabled. If you're on iOS 17–25, the Import from Photo menu item simply won't appear — you can still add recipes manually.

If you're on iOS 26+ but still can't import, check Settings → Apple Intelligence & Siri — Apple Intelligence may still be downloading or may not be enabled.

Why does the app think I can't make a cocktail when I have all the ingredients?

CocktailApp uses ingredient names (case-insensitive) to match recipes to your bar. If a recipe calls for "Bourbon" and you have "Bourbon" toggled in My Bar, it'll show as makeable.

If you have a specific bottle (e.g., "Old Forester") set up as a bottle of "Bourbon" in the inventory's edit screen, the recipe will treat it as satisfied as long as either the bottle or the parent ingredient is in stock.

If you've checked off everything but a cocktail still shows as unmakeable, check whether one of the ingredients is custom and spelled slightly differently from the seed-data ingredient name.

How do I clear my data and start fresh?

Delete the app from your iPhone and reinstall it — that wipes the local SwiftData store completely. Your seed cocktails will repopulate on first launch.

If the app shows a "Couldn't open your bar" screen with a "Reset App Data" button, that's a built-in recovery for schema-related errors. Tapping it discards your data and rebuilds the store; everything you'd added (custom recipes, ratings, in-stock state) is lost.

Can I sync between devices, or back up to iCloud?

Not currently. CocktailApp is local-only by design. If you switch iPhones via standard iPhone-to-iPhone migration (Quick Start), the app's data should move along with the rest of your device. iCloud sync may come later but is not in v1.

What devices are supported?

iPhone running iOS 17 or later. iPad isn't supported in v1.

The photo-import feature additionally requires iOS 26 and Apple Intelligence.

How do I delete a cocktail or ingredient I added?

  • Custom recipes: open the recipe and tap the pencil icon in the top right, then Delete Recipe at the bottom of the form.

  • Custom ingredients: in My Bar, swipe left on the ingredient and tap the pencil icon to open the editor, then Delete Ingredient.

You can't delete the bundled classic cocktails (the 100+ recipes shipped with the app), but you can ignore them by filtering or by editing your bar to mark which ingredients you have.

Can I share a recipe with someone?

Not yet. Recipe sharing is on the roadmap.

A bundled recipe is wrong — can you fix it?

Yes — email us at inspirited@bmuller.com.
